November Text Messages Continue To Break Records

Mobile Phone The annual total for Britain’s text message usage this year looks set to continue its record-breaking trend, hitting a staggering 29 billion to date, with November’s figure of 2.8 billion continuing to outperform previous years.

According to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA) person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators last month showed an increase of over 23% on the total sent during the same period in 2004.

These figures have resulted in November’s total presenting an average of 93 million text messages being sent per day in the UK.

Novembers’ healthy total follows on from record breaking numbers in October, with the MDA revealing that a 2.9 billion messages were sent during the month, with an average of 93.5 million sent per day (see October Text Messages Continue Recording Breaking Performance).

Person-to-person texts sent across the UK network operators in November showed an increase of 25.7% on the total sent compared to the same time last year.

The continued record breaking performance of text messaging in the UK has resulted in the MDA forecasting texts to reach 32 billion for the year as a whole..
