Ofcom Looks Into Complaints Over Channel 4’s Sex Education Show
Ofcom is investigating complaints that Channel 4’s Sex Education Show was too explicit to be shown before the watershed.
The first episode of the programme aired on Tuesday at 8pm and pulled in an average audience of 2.6 million viewers in its hour-long slot.
The series, presented by Anna Richardson, is intended to raise awareness and provide sex education but some viewers claimed the first episode was indecent and should not have been shown before 9pm.
The programme featured teenagers looking at and discussing photographs of penises, as well as talking about what sexual acts they had seen on the internet.
Richardson also had a tantric sex tuition session and a ‘Hollywood wax’ in the show.
Some viewers complained that Channel 4 tried to gain viewers by showing sexually explicit material.
The six-part series is due to cover other sexual issues such as STIs, teenage pregnancy and abortion – which Channel 4 says will offer viewers important advice about the topics.
Channel 4 said it has only received a small number of complaints about the programme.
