Since moving its entire operation online and turning its back on print, the Independent has seen a 6.5% increase in traffic, according to the latest ABC data.
More than 200,000 extra unique browsers were recorded in April, taking the total daily figure to almost 3.3 million. The Indy is currently the fifth most visited newsbrand in the UK.
Elsewhere in the market, there were solid gains for express.co.uk, which was up almost 15%, and for the liverpoolecho.co.uk, up more than 11%.
MailOnline, still in first place, witnessed a rare decline – losing more than 350,000 unique daily browsers last month, while the Telegraph online declined by almost 45,000.
The biggest decline, however, was recorded by Wales Online, which shed almost 58,000 – a drop of -16.5%.
