Online Consumer Spending: March Round Up

According to a new survey by Which? magazine, almost 6m Britons now shop online despite concerns over security. Many consumers still worry about credit card misuse despite efforts by the government and groups such as Which? to allay consumers’ fears.

Which? is to publish a list of online traders which it hopes, along with kitemarks and the introduction of web trader associations, will help to eliminate concerns over credit card fraud.

Meanwhile in the US, the latest figures from Forrester and Greenfield Online show that B2C spending rose by $100 million in March to $3.5 billion for the month.

According to the Forrester Research Online Retail Index, now in it’s 15th month, total spending on online sales increased from $3.4 billion in February , the number of households shopping online remained at 13.5 million in March and consumers spent an average of $263 per person in March compared to $248 in February.

Categories including books, videos and software showed healthy growth rates whilst revenue fell of in other categories such as music, apparel, beauty products and jewellery.
