Orange ends talks to buy Project Kangaroo technology

Orange Logo Orange will not be buying the technology behind Project Kangaroo, the failed VoD venture between ITV, BBC Worldwide and Channel 4.

It is understood that the three parties, who invested as much as £20 million in the project, have been attempting to sell off the technology since the service was blocked earlier this year (see Competition Commission “stops” Kangaroo).

NewsLine reported last month that Orange had shown interested in acquiring the technology for its Orange TV services in Europe (see Orange to buy Project Kangaroo broadband TV technology).

However, a spokesman for France Telecom, Orange’s parent company, said: “We can confirm that we are not pursuing our interest in the catchup TV service Kangaroo.

“After in-depth due diligence, we concluded that it was unlikely that an outcome which benefited France Telecom’s Orange operations would be met.”
