Orange Tunes In Mobile TV For Festival Coverage

Orange Logo Britain’s first public mobile TV service will go live this month, with Orange providing customers on its 3G network with access to a dedicated channel covering the Glastonbury music festival.

The company’s customers will be able to access exclusive footage from this year’ Festival as part of its TV-on-the-mobile service.

Additional content, such as artist interviews, festival life footage and ‘music experiences’ from the event will also be available through Orange 3G handsets.

However, customers not using an Orange 3G handset will not be left out, with the network also providing downloadable clips from the event.

Commenting on the new technology, and Orange’s move into mobile TV, Julian Diment, head of brand and commercial partnerships at Orange, said: “This is the fifth year of our partnership with Glastonbury and the launch of a dedicated Glastonbury TV channel on Orange is a unique and exciting way to build on what we already offer to music fans on Orange.”

He added: “The new channel allows more people to enjoy Glastonbury and clearly demonstrates the exciting capabilities and potential of Orange TV.”

The growing popularity of music festivals has lead other media owners to cash in on the summer season, with IPC’s weekly music magazine, NME, running two issues to cover the event from start to finish (see NME Cashes In On Festivals With Double Glastonbury Coverage).
