Outdoor Giants Are Clear Winners

Piccadilly Circus Outdoor media specialist Clear Channel has enhanced its portfolio with the acquisition of the UK arm of Van Wagner. Among 70 other prestigious sites, Van Wagner owns one of London’s most recognised landmarks, the LED screen in Piccadilly Circus.

The acquisition brings two new formats to Clear Channel’s portfolio with the large format Mega 96-sheet and Mega six-sheet products. The deal strengthens Clear Channel’s position with additional back-lit 96-sheet billboards and a range of special build billboard sites.

Paul Meyer, global president of Clear Channel Outdoor said: “This acquisition will strengthen Clear Channel Outdoor’s position in London, one of the world’s most important ad markets and the host city of the 2012 Olympics.”

The acquisition comes just two weeks after Clear Channel launched the UK’s first digital billboard network in London (see Clear Channel Preps Britain’s First Digital Billboards).

Clear Channel recently recruited Andrew Coetzee back to the company from Admedia to run its Taxi Media division, which controls 80% of UK taxi advertising.
