Over 16% Of All Radio Listening Now Via Digital

Radio Set The latest RAJAR figures, for Q4 2007, show that 16.6% of all radio listening Is now done via a digital platform, up from 15% in the previous quarter.

The figures show that 9.9% of all radio listening is via DAB ( v 8.6% in Q3 2007), 3.1% via DTV (vs. 3.0% in Q3, 2007) and 1.9% via the Internet (vs.1.6% in Q3 2007).

Digital listening hours for the period are up from 153 million hours per week in Q3 to 169 million hours in Q4, while weekly reach grew from 28.4% in Q3 to 29.9% in Q4.

The percentage of adults who own a DAB set at home now stands at 22.3%, up from 21.7% in the third quarter of 2007.

Figures released by the Digital Radio Development Bureau earlier this month showed that one million DAB digital radios were bought in the fourth quarter of 2007, with more than 550,000 sold in December alone (see Strong Christmas Sales For Digital Radios).

RAJAR has also released data for radio listening via mobile phones, which shows that the number of adults (aged 15+) who claim to have listened to the radio via a mobile continues to rise, reaching 9.4% in Q4, up from 9.2% in the previous quarter.

On Monday, RAJAR published its first Podcasting and Radio Listening via the Internet Survey which revealed that almost 12 million people have listened to the radio via the internet, while 4.3 million have downloaded a podcast (see Almost 12m Listen To Internet Radio).
