ITV1’s new two-part documentary series looking at the stories of British expats now living in Spain knocked BBC One’s Occupation off the top spot last night with 4.3 million peak viewers.
Spain: Paradise Lost pulled in 4.2 million average viewers and a 19.7% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour, while BBC One’s new war drama slipped down to 3.2 million viewers and a 14.9% share.
The second of three episodes of Occupation attracted a high of 3.3 million viewers compared to last night’s impressive 4.4 million peak viewers.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies: Back to the Clinic, which saw former patients revisit the health clinic to reveal whether their ailments had healed, picked up just over 3 million average viewers and a 14.1% share.
Five’s classic spaghetti western film, A Fistful of Dollars, attracted a high of 1.7 million viewers and a 8.1% average share between 9pm and 11.05pm.
Meanwhile, BBC Two’s new peak-hour programme The Price of Life, about the troubles with the NHS, failed to secure more than 1 million viewers during the 9pm to 10pm slot, picking up just 808,000 average viewers and a 3.7% share.
Over on Sky1, the much-publicised double bill of Martina Cole’s The Take attracted 718,000 peak viewers, and an average of 648,000 viewers in the first episode and 674,000 in the second.
The new programme proved to be a success for the satellite channel, which usually records average ratings of around 150,000 viewers during the Wednesday evening peak-hour slot.
