Perform has turned down ITV’s six-figure bid for the rights to show highlights of the England v Ukraine match on terrestrial television.

The commercial broadcaster had hoped to broadcast highlights of the England World Cup qualifier after The X Factor on Saturday, but its offer was rejected by the media group.

An ITV source said the amount Perform requested for the highlights package was “commercially unviable”.

However, the broadcaster has not ruled out acquiring the highlights after the match, but it is still “unlikely”, according to the source.

Perform will stream the match on the internet on a pay-per-view basis following the collapse of the pay-TV platform Setanta.

Football fans can purchase a live pass for the game for £4.99, but after tomorrow the price will go up to between £9.99 and £11.99.

Odeon cinemas will also screen the match, which kicks-off at 5.15pm.
