Property Programmes Pull In Viewers For C4

Grand Designs Channel 4’s homes and lifestyle double bill of Property Ladder and Grand Designs Revisited proved popular for the broadcaster last night, putting up a good fight against The Bill and The Apprentice.

Straight-talking Sarah Beeny and her forays into the property development profession in the new series of Property Ladder drew an average adult audience of just short of 2.8 million, giving C4 a 14% viewing share between 8pm and 9pm.

Meanwhile, the Sunhill mob and their attempts at keeping the streets of the capital crime free lured almost five million to ITV1 (25%) for The Bill.

Competition came from Watchdog and Car Wars over on BBC One, which netted 3.5 million and 3.9 million respectively, giving the channel around a 19% viewing share for each show.

3.1 million stuck with Channel 4 as the discerning Kevin McCloud caught up with Monty and Claire, builders of a futuristic, flexible home on a thin strip of land in London. The channel gained a 14% viewing share for Grand Designs Revisited as questions concerning the family’s adaptation to life in a small and unorthodox space were answered.

It was Sir Alan Sugar who reigned supreme over the 9pm to 10pm timeslot however, with 5.1 million adults on average (23%) tuning in to see which contestant would become the latest victim of the businessman’s wrath in The Apprentice.
