Radio is now the most trusted source of news in the UK, according to new research by Ofcom.

People are more likely to tune into their radio or search for news online to find out about the latest election news or the volcanic ash cloud disruptions, the report said.

The regulator found that 66% of people consider radio to be a reliable and accurate news source, compared with 58% for online, 54% for television and a lower 34% for newspapers.

It is first time that online news sites have been seen to be more trusted than television news programmes.

However, Ofcom’s survey found that online users are still sceptical about the quality of information they find on websites, with the exception of news sites.

In terms of general information, radio and television were deemed the most reliable and accurate, while newspapers were voted the least trustworthy medium.  The report was conducted with almost 2000 participants last year.
