The Association of Independent Radio Companies (AIRC) and the BBC have finalised plans to conduct joint industry research for radio audiences in the UK (Newsline 9/5).
A new body, RAJAR, Radio Joint Audience Research, will be set up prior to the launch of the first Independent National Radio station, FNR.
RAJAR will use the self-completion diary technique currently used by JICRAR.
The new system will have two distinct operations. Firstly, a national radio survey, based on a UK sample size of 1000 diarists aged 4+ over a week for all 52 weeks of the year.
Secondly, a local radio survey, based on a minimum of 500 diarists aged 15+ per station, in the second and fourth quarters of the year.
RAJAR is to be a limited company jointly owned by the BBC and AIRC; representatives from the IPA and AMI will be included in the management.
Proposals and tenders for the RAJAR contract will be invited in September with a view to appointing the data supplier in January 1992.
It is expected that RAJAR will launch in September 1992.
