Digital Radio put in a strong performance this quarter, posting substantial increases in share, reach and DAB ownership.

Share of radio listening via a digital platform has increased by 17% year on year.  DAB remains the most popular device when it comes to listening to digital, however, listening via digital television and the internet are also proving popular.

In terms of reach, listening via a digital platform is up by 11% year on year, with 20 million people now tuning in each week. The number of hours people are tuning in for also rose – up 17% year on year, breaking through the 250 million barrier to 253 million hours per week.

In line with this, more and more people are buying DAB sets, with over one third of the population (18.2 million adults) now claiming to live in a house that has a DAB receiver.

Listening via a mobile phone is also growing in popularity.  12.5% of adults aged 15 and over listened to radio via their mobile in the second quarter.  Unsurprisingly, in the 15-24 year demographic, a higher percentage listened via their mobile (almost 30%), with a number saying they tune in at least once a week, and some even claiming to listen every day via this platform.
