Rajar Q4 2023: Heart overtakes BBC Radio 1 in breakfast battle
Holden and Theakston host Heart's breakfast show

Global’s Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden has overtaken BBC Radio 1 in terms of weekly reach (3.99m at Heart versus 3.92m on Radio 1), according to the latest Rajar figures. The show remains the top commercial breakfast programme.

BBC stations retained the top two national spots for weekly reach — Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show at 6.6m and Radio 4’s Today programme at 5.6m. However, both posted declines: by 8% and 9% year on year respectively.

Bauer’s Greatest Hits at Breakfast, hosted by Simon Ross, grew weekly listeners by 3.1% quarter on quarter to 2.8m, following an impressive Q3 that saw double-digit growth, allowing the show to overtake that at Capital.

Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp fell 2.5% quarter on quarter to 2.4m weekly listeners — the same rate of decline as in Q3.

GB News Radio once again grew weekly reach at the fastest year-on-year rate (+32%), albeit from a low base. The station now reaches 194,000 weekly listeners.

Other top risers in year-on-year terms include News Broadcastings’ TalkRadio (+28.6% to 328,000) and Times Radio (+16.5% to 275,000), although the latter saw a quarter-on-quarter fall in weekly reach from Q3.
