Rdio shuts down film and TV platform

Music streaming platform Rdio has announced the end of its film and TV rental service, Vdio, less than a year since its launch.

In an email to users, the company said that it would be shutting down the platform – which launched in the UK and the US in April, and in Canada in August – with immediate effect.

“Despite our efforts, we were not able to deliver the differentiated customer experience we had hoped for, and so Vdio is now closed,” the company wrote, adding that it was unable to deliver a “business model which was attractive to shareholders.”

Amazon gift cards are to be given as compensation for any content that users might have purchased.
