Comic-strip hero, Roy of the Rovers, will sadly meet a tragic end next month because of a massive fall in sales for the title in recent years.
The character has been in the spotlight since 1954 when he appeared on the cover of ‘Tiger’ but he really took off in 1976 with the launch of the Roy of the Rovers comic. At their height sales for the title stood at 200,000 but danger bells began to ring as they plunged to 30,000, making it financially unviable.
Fleetway Editions will say goodbye to Roy on March 20 with hopes that his final scenes will allow a return at a later date.
