The monthly satellite monitor from the Financial Times shows that gross sales and rental of satellite dishes for January was down by almost 5,000 on the same period last year, with the figure for ’93 standing at 65,000.
17,000 of retail sales in January were equipment upgrades and subscription renewals, according to Continental Research findings, giving a net increase of 48,000. A further 300,000 households have shown a growth in interest so far this year, claiming that they would install satellite TV.
This month’s research forecasts that 9.5m homes will have satellite by the year 2000, a drop of almost 1 million from a similar prediction made in November 1990, when the figure stood at 10.3m. The fall is being blamed on slow growth throughout 1992.
