Secret Smile Thrills ITV Audiences

ITV Logo The first half of ITV’s psychological thriller, Secret Smile, drew a healthy audience for the broadcaster last night, scoring 6.9 million and building on the earlier success of a Coronation Street double bill to secure victory over the BBC.

BBC One’s competing programming failed to match ITV’s evening schedule, with Eastenders drawing an average audience of 8.8 million compared with Coronation Street‘s 10 million and 9.7 million for the first and second episodes respectively.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Space Cadets drew 1.9 million with its fake space shuttle launch successfully duping four reality TV contestants into thinking they are in orbit, rather than a barn near Kent.

Five’s film, Ignition, provided the high point of the broadcaster’s schedule last night, with an average audience of 1.3 million adults tuning in between 9pm and 11pm.
