Earlier this week the billionaire Barclay brothers succeeded in their hard-fought battle to take control of the Daily Telegraph and its sister publications with a winning bid worth £665 million.

The sale of titles came six months after the Barclays saw their secret deal to buy Hollinger’s assets fail, and puts an end to a ferocious bidding process involving some of the UK’s most powerful newspaper groups.
