Worldwide media engagement company Shazam has announced plans to unveil a new version of its music identification app for iOS and Android devices, promising “deeper engagement and exploration”.

Shazam allows users to identify things that they like – from music to television shows – and then tag and share them.

The new design is expected to include a refreshed home screen, an improved layout, and a way in which users can track what other users have been tagging, including music, TV shows and adverts.

In addition to the development of its entertainment features, the update will include a mapping feature that will enable users to zoom into any city in the world to discover the most popular genres and tracks in the specified location.

Users will also be able to share information on popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

The launch comes after the news that Shazam has reached the 300 million user mark, experiencing triple-digit download growth in just a few months.

Andrew Fisher, the CEO of Shazam, said: “Our new app gives our fans a significantly improved and streamlined way to engage more with the media they enjoy in the fastest way possible.”

Users can expect to be able to download the updated version of Shazam in the next few weeks and it will be available for a number of devices including iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android.
