Sinyor Rumoured To Be Departing Trinity Mirror

Joe Sinyor, chief executive of Trinity Mirror’s newspaper division, is believed to be stepping down following the appointment of Sly Bailey as chief executive of the group last week (see Bailey Leaves IPC To Replace Graf At Trinity Mirror).

According to a report in the Sunday Times, Sinyor, who has been at Trinity Mirror for two years, is preparing to negotiate the terms of his departure following his failure to secure the role left vacant by Philip Graf.

Speculation suggests that Sinyor’s departure has been prompted by a disagreement with Trinity Mirror chairman, Sir Victor Blank, over strategy. The Sunday Times suggests that Sinyor is in favour of selling off the group’s national newspapers, the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday People, a move thought to be opposed by Sir Victor.

It is understood that US investment company and one of Trinity Mirror’s largest shareholders, Tweedie Brown, is also in favour of demerging the group’s regional and national newspaper operations. The company’s managing director, Tom Shrager, has reportedly criticised Sly Bailey’s appointment, claiming that it shows that Sir Victor is in favour keeping the company as it is.

Philip Graf, who was appointed chief executive of Trinity Mirror in 1999, announced his decision to step down last September (see Graf To Step Down As Chief Executive Of Trinity Mirror). He is due to leave the company early next year to be replaced by IPC chief executive, Sly Bailey.
