Sky’s Now TV to offer triple play bundle with no contract

Sky’s online streaming service Now TV has announced the launch of a new ‘combo’ package – making it the UK’s first contract-free triple play bundle with TV, broadband and calls.

Launching next month, Now TV Combo comes with a smart box, combining live and on-demand TV – with up to 35 pay TV and over 60 free-to-air TV channels – alongside broadband and call packages starting from £9.99.

However, there’s a much less appetising cost of £17.99 for line rental, and the most robust packages on offer can reach up to £52 per month. There is also an initial £40 cost for the smart box.

“We know people want the freedom and control of a no strings relationship when it comes to choosing their TV, broadband and call package, so the Now TV Combo is the product and service they deserve,” said Gidon Katz, managing director of Now TV.

Now TV launched in 2012 and attracts consumers who do not wish to enter into a full contract or those that can’t have a dish attached to their home. At its most basic, the service is available as nothing more than an app that can work with TV streaming devices such as Google Chromecast, making it a cheap and attractive offering for many cost-weary consumers.

However, responding to the launch, Strategy Analytics’ David Mercer said: “”By launching the UK’s first service package combining online pay TV, free TV, broadband and phone calls, Now TV not only targets Freeview but other triple play providers like TalkTalk and BT.

“The £9.99 entry level package will be of interest to free TV viewers tempted by the flexibility of switching in and out of pay TV, as well as those looking to get a low cost broadband/TV bundle.

“The fact the new smart box combines free digital TV channels with Internet TV and video services in one interface should make life easier for people who want everything in one place without switching between different boxes.”

Every Now TV Combo comes with a ‘smart box’ and the new homepage will offer editorial recommendations updated throughout the day, as well as a new pause feature for live TV, lasting up to thirty minutes.
