The integration of Smart TVs into the digital market has increased significantly over the past year according to new research from IHS Screen Digest.
The study shows that Smart TVs are experiencing widespread exponential growth, accounting for 25% of all television sets shipped across the globe in 2012 – a total of 66 million.
The research has predicted that this figure will increase to 141 million sets by 2015 (a 50% climb), and 173 million the year after, which will account for almost two-thirds of the world’s television total.
Veronica Thayer, IHS analyst, has said: “Despite a decline in global television shipments in 2012, consumer demand for Internet-connected televisions soared during the year – and the surge in sales shows no signs of abating.
“Smart TVs are rapidly joining the mainstream as manufacturers refine their products to add new features and to make them easier to use.”
