Social media: the under-25s’ news outlet

Almost half of those aged between 16 and 24-years-old find out breaking news from social networks, primarily Facebook and Twitter, rather than traditional sources such as search engines.

ReutersInstitute Digital Report revealed that 43% of under-25s in the UK no longer consult Google to stay in the know.

Facebook, unsurprisingly, was named the most popular medium through which to communicate news, according to Reuters. A total of 55% shared news updates via the site, compared to 33% using email and 23% over Twitter.

LinkedIn and Google+, by comparison, were “hardly used” to share news by respondents.
