Strong Agency Account Activity In November

Advertising and marketing account activity was strong in November and the ongoing trends are positive, according to the latest New Business Scorecard from Lehman Brothers.

There was a substantial increase in the number of advertising account moves during November, with evidence that the improving advertising outlook is beginning to flow through to agency revenues. The activity was boosted by some major account reviews, including the US media buying business for Coca-Cola.

Omnicom comfortably topped the scorecard after having won the account for Aventis Oncology global consolidation and the global media consolidation from McDonald’s. WPP came bottom for the second consecutive month, hit by leakage of further Cordiant losses; excluding these it would have been broadly flat, according to Lehman analysts.

In media buying in the year to date, WPP and Publicis agencies are at the top with Havas’ MPG towards the bottom, says the report.
