SUBtv Hands Advertisers Student Poker Deal

SUBtv Poker Tournament Student TV network, SUBtv, will this autumn tempt potential card sharks away from their studies to engage in a cross-media poker tournament, comprising on air and online activity to position potential advertisers alongside one of the nation’s increasingly popular gambling activities.

The tournament will provide valuable advertising and sponsorship opportunities reaching 1.5 million students in 80 universities each week, with brands involved in the interactive promotion benefiting from cross media exposure to the SUBtv audience.

Sponsors are able to label both online and offline activities organised by SUBtv, positioning them as youth and student friendly brands. Participants will also have the chance to build a relationship with poker communities nation-wide, and be associated with popular, skilled entertainment on SUBtv.

The initiative follows the highly successful promotion of US-based PokerStars.com through SUBtv’s network, which saw nearly 800 players from 60 universities taking part in a Texas Hold’em competition.

The tournament was hosted by World Series of Poker champion, Greg Raymer, with SUBtv and PokerStars creating a special promotion including interviews and vox pops, with Raymer encouraging the students to improve their skills and have fun whilst playing him in the online tournament.

Most student unions organise weekly pub quizzes, so SUBtv has arranged for 25 unions to run a special poker round where teams answer questions about the card game.

Commenting on the promotion, Cecilie Hage, business development at SUBtv said: “We know poker is a popular game amongst the student audience. We had huge interest from the student unions we are working with and we found that the mix between live events and online worked very well.”

She added: “Three new poker societies have been started on the back of this promotion and the unions are keen for SUBtv to hold similar promotions in the future.”

SUBtv’s network and range of services continues to grow, with the firm recently enabling a new MMS-to-screen facility to offer advertisers another way to reach young audiences, running SMS campaigns through the new system (see SUBtv Launches MMS To Screen Facility).

The technology allows students to send an image and message of up to 150 characters, which is displayed on the SUBtv plasma screens at universities across the UK, reaching 1,6 million students from the new academic year starting in September.
