SUBtv Promotes Ubisoft Game With Internet Tournament

Student union TV specialist SUBtv has announced the creation of a new inter-university games tournament, promoting computer games firm Ubisoft’s latest action game, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2.

The tournament will see players from universities across the country battle for supremacy, while filmed by SUBtv and broadcast across its network of plasma screens to union bars nation-wide.

Amongst the 14 universities taking part in the promotion are Manchester, Cardiff, Napier, Leeds and the London School of Economics. Each university will have special gaming booths installed on the premises, equipped with both Playstation and Xbox consoles. Players will then compete via the internet for the title of Inter-University Champions, a £1500 prize fund and a BT Broadband line free for a year.

SUBtv will film the event using IP cameras which will stream the footage via the SUBtv network and allow each university see their opponents live as the tournament progresses. The feeds will also be available to view online at any time during the tournament via a dedicated event website set up by Ubisoft.

Commenting on the promotion, Jason Barrett of SUBtv said: “This is a huge event for SUBtv. It is extremely exciting and satisfying to be involved in creating the very first multi-player real-time location based gaming competition within SUBtv’s university locations. This unique event is the first of its kind and presents the perfect use of SUBtv’s technology and community-based audience to create a highly interactive brand experience and a blueprint for the on-campus multi-player gaming events of the future.”

Ian Chambers, Brand Manager at Ubisoft added: “Ubisoft are thrilled to be working with SUBtv on this exciting venture. “Ghost Recon is one of the best and most popular games on Xbox, so it is the perfect choice for this large scale tournament.”

SUBtv recently signed mobile phone operator 3 as the sponsor of its new Video Jukebox service in 65 student union venues nation-wide. The deal gives the network uniquely targeted access to a youthful audience and provides an opportunity to build relationships with young opinion formers (see SUBtv Signs 3 For Video Jukebox Sponsorship).
