Talks break down between Sky and Tiscali

Talks have broken down between Tiscali and BSkyB after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement about the satellite broadcaster’s takeover of the internet business.

It is understood that Tiscali was holding out for a figure in the region of £600 million while Sky was considering an offer of around £450 million.

In September last year it was reported that The Carphone Warehouse bid less than £450 million for Tiscali, 25% lower than the company’s expectation of £600 million (see Carphone Warehouse Makes Tiscali Offer).

Sky had 1,792,000 customers at the end of September while Tiscali had 1,774,000. That was down from 1,838,000 recorded at the end of the June, about 37,000 lower than the previous quarter.

Had a deal gone through it would have made Sky Britain’s third-largest broadband provider.
