TalkSPORT Secures Tetley’s For Rugby Sponsorship

TalkSPORT has secured a six-figure deal with Tetley’s beer to sponsor the station’s coverage of the current Rugby World Cup in Australia.

The brand, which is the official beer of English and Scottish rugby, has secured an unprecedented sponsorship presence across the station’s seven weeks of rugby coverage.

In addition to break bumpers between games, talkSPORT is launching a special Tetley’s sponsored one hour rugby show on Thursday and Sunday evenings throughout the campaign.

The new rugby show will contain features and interviews, match reports and sports bulletins throughout the day. There will also be outside broadcasts at Carlsberg Tetley pubs before every England game as well as home nations’ matches.

The campaign will also be supported by a special ‘Thirst for Rugby’ promotion, which will give away crates of Tetley’s and signed England team shirts as prizes. There will also be supporting activity on the radio station’s website, where a separate competition will give away crates of Tetley’s before every England game.

The latest RAJAR results for the three months to June 2003 show that talkSPORT saw its weekly reach decline by 10% year on year to just below 2.2 million and its share of listening drop by 0.2% points to 1.6%.

However, the GfK Broadcast Media Survey, commissioned by Kelvin MacKenzie’s Wireless Group, shows that the station stabilised with the return of the football season and held on to its lead as the UK’s leading commercial station with 6.2 million listeners (see GfK Survey Names Heart As Most Listened To London Station).
