TalkSPORT Sweepstake Offers Free World Cup Ads

Talksport Logo National talk radio station, talkSPORT, is to offer lucky advertisers free advertising through its network with a special World Cup sweepstake.

The offer is intended to capitalise on talkSPORT’s status as the only commercial radio station in Britain with rights to the World Cup tournament.

32 advertisers will be invited by the broadcaster to take part in its sweepstake, with each advertiser selecting a team to support for the duration of the football tournament.

For £10,000, each advertiser will be allowed to run a three-week campaign, ending on 23 June. Those picking a team which fails to progress to the knock-out stage will see their ads taken off air, while those supporting successful teams will remain.

Those supporting successful teams will be guaranteed free advertising airtime until their team is knocked out. In addition, the advertiser supporting the winning team will be given an additional week after the tournament has ended. In total, the promotion will see finalists given free advertising for 16 days, while the winner will secure an impressive 23 days of free airtime.

In addition to the airtime sweepstake, all buyers’ names will be put into a draw to win flights and two free tickets to a world cup game in the last 16.

Announcing the promotion, talkSPORT’s commercial director, Phil Quartly, explained: “The buzz around the World Cup and talkSPORT’s involvement is already reaching fever pitch. This sweepstake gives advertisers the chance to get a little more competitive with each other while also having some fun, encapsulating the spirit of the tournament.”

Last month saw talkSPORT launch branded digital radio sets through high street retailer Currys, using the devices to capitalise on World Cup fever, and promote its exclusive use of ‘Intellitext’ technology, allowing listeners to access news headlines, sports scores and traffic information on-demand (see TalkSPORT Launches Branded Radios To Drive Listenership).
