TalkTalk has announced that its pay-TV offering has reached the half a million subscriber mark within the first year of the company starting.

TalkTalk claims that the figures prove that it is the UK’s fastest growing pay-TV service, with the company’s chief executive Dido Harding saying that this is “just the beginning”.

In the three months up to June the company added an extra 160,000 households, while BT, despite reaching the million milestone, signed just 23,000 new customers. Most of BT’s new subscriptions came from existing accounts that have re-signed to get BT’s free football package for the Premier League, which drew in less than a million viewers upon its launch on 17 August.

“We have the UK’s fastest growing new TV business and our customers clearly appreciate its comprehensive content and value for money pricing,” said Harding in May, while reflecting upon the company’s positive financial results for the year.

“We will continue to invest in growth and remain confident that having more customers who buy more products and who stay with us longer, puts us firmly on track to achieve our medium term financial targets.”

TalkTalk renewed its sponsorship deal with X Factor earlier this year in an attempt to up the ante with rivaling pay-TV companies such as BT, BSkyB and Virgin Media.
