Teenage Market Slips Further Into Decline

The overall trend for the teenage market again showed a decrease in this temperamental sector, with a 7.1% drop in circulation across all titles that was more severe than the 1.4% drop for the previous reporting period.

The worst hit titles were the BBC’s Live and Kicking, with a 29.8% fall and BBC stablemate, Top of the Pops magazine, with a fall of 17.2%.

The jury finally delivered the verdict for Mollins’ Jump when the title finally closed in October 2000. The title was suffering with poor sales only one year after its launch.

Emap still managed to keep a grip on its lead in this sector with a 33% share of the market. The eagerly-awited arrival of its Elle Girl title will add to its current total and increase its lead further above its rivals, Attic Futura, with 29% of the market, and BBC Worldwide in third place with a 24% share.
