Teletext On The Move

Teletext Logo Peripatetic information-junkies with WAP-enabled phones are now able to access Teletext’s digital TV service via their mobiles. Headlines, sport, weather, competitions and more will be available across all mobile networks, with personalised homepages allowing ease of access to favourite sites.

Opportunities for advertisers will include banner advertising, sponsorship and tenancy, in a bid to reverse the 19% year-on-year fall in ad revenues, announced in February, for the Daily Mail and General Trust-owned company

.

The new mobile internet service is part of the programme of investment and expansion of digital media, following the appointment of new senior managerial staff in January. The promotional push has already seen a strong ad campaign plus a revamp of the Teletext Holidays division.

To encourage new users, Teletext is using an SMS promotion, with those joining up to the service receiving free text alerts to let them know whether Germany’s Jens Lehmann has had another sending off or if Theo Walcott has scored his first goal for England.

Said Sean Grant, director of commercial text at Teletext: “The introduction of our mobile internet service further reinforces our commitment to providing our viewers with the latest information, via the most up-to-date forms of technology.”
