Television viewing Round-Up: March 2010

Television viewing figures for March 2010 reveal a fall in viewing shares for ITV1 and BBC One.

ITV1 suffered a 1.4 percentage point fall on March 2009, with BBC One down 0.5 percentage points.

Channel 4 and Five also saw their viewing shares dip year on year, while BBC Two’s remained relatively static.

All Viewing

ITV1 now has a viewing share of 16.8%, down from 18.1% in March 2009.

BBC One’s viewing share stands at exactly 21% following its year on year fall, while BBC Two was down slightly, by 0.1 percentage point, to 6.9%.

Following a 0.8 percentage point fall, Channel 4 now has a 6.6% viewing share, while Five’s share is 5% after a 0.2 percentage point dip.

Earlier today BARB and Thinkbox released figures showing that in the three months to the end of March, people in the UK watched 30 hours and 4 minutes of linear, broadcast TV a week.

Digital Viewing

In digital homes, BBC One grabbed the biggest viewing share at 20.4%, unchanged year on year.

BBC Two was up 0.3 percentage points, to 6.6%.

ITV1’s share stands at 16.4%, down 0.7 percentage points year on year, with Channel 4 down 0.5 percentage points to 6.4%

Five’s share was relatively static year on year, down 0.1 percentage point to 4.9%.

Sky and Freeview Homes

BBC One had a 24.3% share of viewing in Freeview homes and an 18% share in Sky homes, while ITV1 had an 18.7% share in Freeview homes and a 14.4% share in Sky homes.

Other channels had a 52.8% share in Sky homes and a 32.8% share in Freeview homes.
