The Media Leader’s interview series asks the media industry’s top salespeople 10 revealing questions, drawn from our fishbowl. The questions will be drawn at random and contain some tricky posers set by the commercial chiefs themselves.
This week is Charlie Perrett, joint group head of sales at outdoor company KBH.
Charlie Perrett joined KBH, which specialises in rail inventory, in 2018 as senior client partner.
She has held previous sales roles in outdoor companies at Maximus, Outdoor Plus, Canary Wharf Media and RAM Vision.
What is one of your greatest achievements?
My daughter, she’s the best of me.
How often are you in the office in a typical week?
Four days a week.
**Peer question** If you won £10m on the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
A house on the marina at ‘Port St Charles’ in Barbados, it’s so beautiful there.
** Question from Ryan Rummery, commercial DAX director at Global
What are clients talking about this year that they weren’t last year?
Sustainability.
**Peer question** What podcast do you regularly listen to and why?
I Weigh hosted by Jameela Jamil. She challenges “social norms” and empowers people to talk about their mental health. She’s also a big advocate for feminism and women’s rights, which is another reason why I love her.
** Question from Sally Keane, head of enterprise sales for Northern Europe at Spotify.
Name all the streaming platforms you subscribe (pay money) to.
Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Sky TV, Netflix, and Paramount +.
Has selling media become easier or harder?
I think it depends on the format.
From our perspective it has taken a while for our rail formats to recover since Covid. We had been taken off plans for a couple of years during lockdown and now it’s about re-selling in the format again and out-of-home as a whole.
What was the last movie you saw at the cinema?
I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
What is one non-work related goal that you would like to achieve in the next five years?
Be debt free.
Which deal in your career are you proudest of?
When I was at Outdoor Plus I sold a site to Kia on the M4 for a year at £800.000. It hadn’t even been built, we only had mock-ups of it!
