The Sun Gets South-East Price Cut

The Sun The Sun is to cut its price from 35p to 20p in London and the south-east from Monday, in a move aimed at keeping the title’s sales above three million copies a day.

However, circulation revenue is likely to be badly affected, with London and the south-east accounting for about 20% of the Sun‘s sales, said a report on MediaGuardian.co.uk.

The paper’s publisher, News International, will be increasing the cover price of the Times on Monday, from 65p to 70p, the same price as rival quality titles the Independent, Guardian and Daily Telegraph.

The latest ABC figures, for July this year, show that the Sun had a total circulation of just over 3.1 million copies, down 78,600 or 2.5% year on year (see ABC National Newspaper Round-Up: July 2007).

It was earlier revealed that the Sun‘s revamped website will see the title move into the local advertising market, taking on Trinity Mirror and Daily Mail & General Trust, as well as local advertisers (see Sun Website To Move Into Local Advertising).
