News International (NI) has announced that The Sun will be replacing its Saturday television guide, TV Mag, with a new glossy magazine aimed at female readers.

The new magazine, which currently does not yet have a name, will be launched later on in the year.

It will include lifestyle features and a new TV listings section, along with a celebrity front cover.

Jane Johnson, The Sun’s Saturday editor and associate editor, will head up the new title. Johnson also launched the News of the World‘s women’s magazine Fabulous in 2008, and Closer in 2002.

NI has been promoting an upmarket magazine proposition to media agencies, aiming to attract higher-profile brand advertisers, rather than focusing on direct response ads.

The Sun magazines editor, Jonathan Worsnop, launched TV Mag in 1998. He is now leaving The Sun in order to pursue new challenges.
