The Syndicate beats 9pm rivals for third week running

For the third week in a row the latest series of Kay Mellor and BBC One’s rags-to-riches-to-ironic-tragedy drama The Syndicate (9pm) nailed Tuesday’s prime time slot as suspect grounds keeper Sean took centre stage.

Opening up with 5.4 million viewers two weeks ago, the third run of the drama about everyday folk winning it big focused on the eponymous syndicate made up of the mismatched staff of a once flourishing manor house.

Mirroring last week’s audience, the third episode saw the staff attempt to take control of the estate they are all tied to, netting 5.2 million viewers and a 26% share.

On BBC Two, the third and final part of An Hour to Save Your Life‘s (9pm) second series came to a suitably dramatic end. The nerve-racking documentary once again focused on three real life incidents and the highly vital decisions made by medics in the first sixty minutes, taking in 2 million viewers and a 10% share.

ITV offered up its slice of prime time reality with the second half of workplace doc The Enforcers (9pm). One of those programmes designed to make viewers feel a little bit better about their own jobs, the show details the trials of the High Court Enforcement Officers as they track down debtors and evict squatters, resulting in 1.7 million viewers and an 8% share.

The penultimate episode of No Offence went out on Channel 4 at 9pm, down from the opening episode’s 2.2 million viewers, to an audience of 1 million and a 5% share.

Meanwhile on Channel 5, something called Viva Espana! OAPs Behaving Badly (9pm) was watched by 931,000 viewers and a 5% share.

Earlier at 8pm, three main channels were competing for the eyes of the nation’s animal lovers, as BBC Two explored the world of colossal flightless birds while both ITV and Channel 5 went for the much more mainstream ‘cute doggie’ option.

Natural World (BBC Two, 8pm) saw Sir David Attenborough chase down some funny looking big birdies across arid landscapes, bringing in 1.8 million viewers and a 10% share in the process.

On ITV, the second and final instalment of Me and My Guide Dog (8pm) saw the industrious super cute puppies complete their first year of training, with their skills put to the test. For the second week the working pooches secured a little under 2 million viewers, with last night’s dose of working dogs netting an 11% share.

The Dog Rescuers (8pm) were back on Channel 5 with Alan Davies in tow as the latest feel-good hour of canine liberation secured 869,000 million viewers and a 5% share.

Over on BBC One, Holby City (8pm) won over its time slot with 4.2 million viewers and a 23% share.

At 7pm, Emmerdale (ITV) was watched by a little over 5 million viewers and a 31% share, while EastEnders (BBC One, 7:30pm) took the top spot with 6.2 million viewers and a 35% share.
