TNS Appoints Lowden To Chief Executive

UK market research firm, Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), has announced the appointment of David Lowden as its new chief executive, succeeding Mike Kirkham as of March next year.

Lowden moves up from his position as chief operating officer, with the board asserting that in his time at TNS he has played a central role in the development of the group, showing considerable ability in operational and strategic management, together with strong leadership skills.

Commenting on Lowden’s promotion, Tony Cowling, chairman of TNS, said: “The board is delighted that David is moving up to be chief executive. He has clearly demonstrated he has the skills and experience for the role and we are of the view that he is the right person to lead the company through the next stage of its development.”

Cowling continued: “We believe that, together with the support of the strong operational management across the group, David will provide the leadership, continuity and strategic thinking necessary for the future successful development of TNS.”

Cowling will stand down as chairman of TNS at the end of this year, with the board appointing external advisors to assist in the search for a replacement. Kirkham has accepted the board’s invitation to become a candidate for this role.

Last month TNS reported an increase in pre-tax profit for the six months to June 30, rising to £35.9 million from £32.4 million at the same time last year (see TNS Reports Profit Of £35.9 Million For First Half Of 2005).

Revenues for the group enjoyed a year on year increase of 3.1%, reaching £460 million, up from £446 million, while the interim dividend also grew, rising by 13.6% to 1.25 pence per share from 1.1 pence a year earlier.
