TNX Signs Train TV Deal With Ninth Rail Operator

TNX TV, the UK’s first train based television network, has signed C2C as the ninth regional rail operator to carry its service, in a move that extends its reach to an extra 25 million commuters per year.

The network will provide entertainment and information programmes, including comedy and general interest features, designed to enhance passengers’ journeys. The content will be delivered to trains via a wireless network and will be shown on six screens in each coach.

TNX recently secured ITN as the provider of up-to-the-minute news content for the network, which currently has deals to cover over 70% of rail passengers in London and 50% of the commuter train network nationally (see ITN Gives Train Passengers News On The Move).

Commenting on the new deal, Andrew Chivers, managing director of C2C, said: “We are a modern railway with a young and demanding customer base and we believe that the TNX system will provide a valuable service.”

He added: “Our passengers will be able to enjoy a range of entertaining, stimulating and informative programming that includes news provided by ITN. In the future we have the potential to use the system to improve passenger information and enhanced security through CCTV.”

Last month saw TNX sign the eighth train operator to carry its system, boosting coverage by an extra 10 million viewers each year. The eighth rail operator is yet to be named, but is believed to be a national service operator, meaning the new system’s reach can be widened still further (see Eighth Train Operator Signs For Onboard TV System).
