Tony Gallagher to become joint editor of the Daily Mail

Former Telegraph editor, Tony Gallagher, is to return to the newspaper industry as joint deputy editor of the Daily Mail.

In a statement, Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre said: “It’s great news that Tony has decided to come back to his spiritual home. He is a highly talented professional journalist who will be a welcome addition to Associated’s team of unrivalled senior executives.”

Gallagher – who turned his hands to Moorish cuisine after being sacked from the Telegraph in January – said that he is “delighted to be joining the Daily Mail.”

“My huge admiration for Paul Dacre is well known and I am greatly looking forward to joining his outstanding team.”

On Wednesday Gallagher tweeted: “Ooh look, I’ve gained a new follower. Hello @MailOnline.”
