People in the UK are spending more time online, using mobile phones and using social networks, according to the new TouchPoints3 survey.

The survey found that 75% of adults use the internet each week, up from 53% in 2006. The amount of time people spend online has increased by 38%.

The time spent social networking has increased to 37%, compared to 16% in 2006.

Television remains the most popular medium, in terms of average hours consumed and reach, at 3.7 hours and 98%.

Radio had 2.1 hours average consumption, and 89% reach. The internet measured in at 1.8 hours and 75%.

Less than 20% of adults watch television and video content online, and for 15 minutes per day.

43% of 15-24 year-olds reported an increase in time spent online, compared to 20% growth among 55+ users.

Other findings include:

  • Television viewing fell 5% since 2008
  • Radio listening increased by 1% since 2008
  • Reading fell by 5% since 2008
  • The BBC reaches 98% of all adults via at least one of its television, radio, online and magazine options (Sky reaches about half that number)
