Trinity Mirror has redesigned its 22 ultra-local sites in Teesside in a bid to integrate them with the main newspaper site and is also set to rollout the second phase of its mobile relaunch.
The postcode specific sites, which originally launched in October 2007, have been redesigned to make it easier for readers to access news about their local area and contribute their own stories.
From now on, the top stories from the local sites will also appear on the Evening Gazette’s homepage, which is a move aimed at integrating the local sites with the newspaper brand to draw users to the main site.
The newspaper publishing group has also added a map-based news service across the local sites following a trial on the Liverpool Echo.
Trinity Mirror also plans to relaunch its 13 mobile sites, which include the Daily Mirror and the Birmingham Post sites, offering new features such as user-generated content, ringtones and wallpapers for download.
Once it has rolled-out the second phase of its mobile revamp, the publishing group plans to improve content and add video capabilities as part of the third-stage of the relaunch.
