Fox streaming platform Tubi rolls out in the UK

Tubi, Fox’s ad-supported streaming platform, is to enter the UK market.

It will launch with more than 20,000 films and TV episodes on demand, with content from companies including Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment, as well as original programming.

The platform, which was launched in the US in 2014 and became part of Fox in 2020, utilises machine learning to deliver personalised viewing experiences to users.

Tubi will be available to UK viewers as a free app on all major connected TV platforms, Apple iOS and Android smartphones, as well as on desktop, in the coming weeks. A specific date has not been disclosed.

An ad campaign, “Watch What You Actually Want to Watch”, will launch on 15 July and aims to tackle “entertainment snobbery”.

David Salmon, executive vice-president and managing director of international at Tubi, said:  “We believe that we can build a brilliantly broad, culturally ambitious offering that puts UK audiences back at the centre and makes it fun and easy to enjoy great entertainment from around the world.”

Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi, added: “We’re committed to listening to what resonates with UK fans, and bringing them more and more of what they love.”

Tubi is the fastest-growing streaming service in the US, where it has almost 80m active monthly users, after debuting on Nielsen’s TV trends report The Gauge a year ago. In May, it tied with Disney+ on total viewing time.

In addition to the US, Tubi is available in Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, New Zealand and Panama.

This is the second major ad-supported streaming platform launch in the UK this year. Freely, which is backed by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, rolled out in April.
