Last night’s National Television Awards drew almost 6.5 million adults on average to ITV1 between 8.30pm and 10.30pm, giving the station a viewing share of 30.7%.
The glamorous event, which saw cheeky chappies Ant and Dec scoop several of the top prizes, was the most watched programme over the two hours, with Rogue Traders and The Nature of Britain performing well for BBC One during the ceremony.
The exposé of shoddy paving jobs was watched by almost 4.6 million adult on average – a share of 22% between 8.30pm and 9pm – whilst Alan Titchmarsh’s soothing tones attracted more than 4.7 million (21.5%) for the wildlife programme between 9pm and 10pm.
Over on BBC Two, Heroes mustered an audience of over 2.2 million (10%), whilst the first edition of Channel 4’s new two-part feature length drama, Britz, didn’t fare too well against the awards.
The gripping film, which explored modern life as a British Muslim, with the story’s protagonist joining the security service to tackle extremism in his community of Bradford, was watched by just 1.1 million adults on average over its two-hour duration, giving C4 a 5.9% share.
Earlier, Coronation Street managed its usual high audience figures, with almost 10 million (49.1%) tuning in to the ITV1 soap.
