TV Market Round-Up – April 2008
April was a mixed month for the terrestrial stations, with Five and GMTV posting year on year increases, while ITV1 and Channel 4 recorded losses. The best performance came from the breakfast station, which saw its revenues grow by 8.2% to stand at just over £5 million.
Revenues for Five went up by 3.3% during April 2008 to £24.4 million.
Across the ITV1 network, revenue income was down by 4.5% on April 2007, with compared regions pulling in £110.6 million. Channel 4 saw its income marginally slip by 1.5% on the previous year’s total.
Total Satellite saw its revenue total increase by 20.8% year on year, to stand at £95.5 million.

ITV Franchises
According to our agency estimates, Carlton achieved the greatest share of ITV1 revenue, with the London weekday franchise area attaining 15.79% share of the network’s revenue. Narrowly behind was Central, accounting for 15.59% of the network’s revenue.
The North West/Border area, which went from 10.27% in April 2007 to 10.55% this year, saw the best year on year increase in share.
West Country maintains its position as ITV1’s smallest provider of revenue, remaining at 2.07% for April 2008.

Costs Per Thousand
ITV1 cost per thousand price fell across all our featured audiences. The biggest decrease in price came from Housewives with Children, down by 17% year on year.
Channel 4 also reported across the board falls for our featured audiences, with Men’s price falling by 15% to cost £18.89.
Five was also cheaper to reach across all audiences, with ABC1 Adults falling the most year on year (down 13.4% to cost £13.65).

Commercial Impacts
ITV1 saw all featured audiences improve year on year for commercial impacts, with Housewives with Children up 15.1% on April 2007. ABC1 Adults, 10.6% higher than twelve months ago, recorded the next biggest increase.
All featured audiences increased for Channel 4 during April 2008. The biggest increase was recorded amongst Men, up by 15.9% year on year. Next best performance came from Adults, which increased by 15.6% on the previous year’s figures.
Five commercial impacts increased across all featured audiences, with ABC1 Adults rising the most (up 19.2% year on year).
Total Broadcast’s recorded year on year rises for all featured audiences, with Women performing best up 17.5% on April 2007.
