Analysis of the latest TV revenue figures for August reveal an over-all year on year increase for the UK’s main terrestrial channels. Increases were seen across the board, with the exception of GMTV. Channel 5 saw biggest increase, with revenue rising by 30% year on year during August. The coming months will be crucial for Channel 5 if it is to strengthen its position in the terrestrial TV market.

ITV Franchise Revenue

The ITV franchises saw mixed results over the August period. LWT saw the most significant downward movement and Carlton also saw a notable year on year decline during August. On a brighter note, HTV and Meridian were seen up 0.72 and 0.74 percentage points respectively.

Costs Per Thousand

Costs per thousand rose across the board throughout August, with Channel 5 experiencing the most significant gains in the Housewives with Children and the Men categories. Channel 4 saw a notable year on year increase in the Men category, whilst ITV saw an increase in the Housewives and ABC1 Adults categories.

Commercial Impacts

Commercial Impacts rose across the board for Satellite channels. However, the situation was mixed for terrestrial broadcasters, with Channel 5 experiencing a notable decline in the Housewives with Children category and Channel 4 seeing a significant increase in the Women category. ITV1 saw increases in the Men category and the Housewives with Children category.
