TV Market Round-Up: February 2010

Televisions

ITV1’s revenue was up 3.3% year on year in February, with Channel 4 up 7.9% and Five up 8.6%.

Revenue at ITV1 hit £84.3 million in February up from £81.6 million a year previously.

Channel 4’s revenue for the month was £47 million, while Five’s was £15.2 million.

Elsewhere, GMTV recorded a 2% increase to around 4.2 million.

ITV Franchises

Looking at ITV franchise regions, six of them provided revenue share of more than 10%.

The largest share was provided by Central at 15.44%, although this was down 0.19 percentage points on February 2009.

Carlton provided a 14.86% share, down 1.19 percentage points, while LWT and Meridian provided shares of 11.14% and 11.42% respectively.

Costs Per Thousand

February saw across the board increases in ITV1’s CPT price, with the Housewives and Children audience enjoying the largest increase at 13.3%.

Channel 4’s CPT price also showed increases for all audiences, with the Housewives audience up 22.2%.

Also up across all audiences was Five; the Adults and Women audiences recorded the biggest growth, at 9.5%.

Commercial Impacts

Commercial impacts at ITV1 were down year on year across all our featured audiences in February. The largest fall was in the Housewives with Children category, down 8.8% year on year.

There were also across the board declines for Channel 4. The largest fall was in the Housewives audiences, down 11.7% year on year.

There was slightly better news at Five, with one audience – ABC1 Adults – up 1.2% year on year, while Housewives remained static.

Total Broadcast commercial impacts were up in four categories. The biggest increase (2.9%) was for Housewives with Children.
