TV Market Round-Up – January 2002

An analysis of TV revenue estimates from agencies for the first month of this year does not bring good news for the terrestrial channels. Year on year, a decline of 13.5% was seen overall, with the largest channel, ITV1, seeing the heaviest fall. Channel 4 suffered while Channel 5 got off relatively lightly, only seeing a small decline in a year on year comparison. There was slightly better news for Satellite channels, whose revenue grew, albeit a modestly.

Among the ITV franchises, little movement in terms of percentage share was seen year on year. The largest upward movement was at Meridian, while the biggest loss was at LWT. The largest share of ITV revenue was retained by Carlton.
